David Polk
Master Mechanic
Thanks for checking out Blue Cog Velo. I’ve worked full time in the cycling industry for the past twenty years. It’s definitely changed a ton and yet still stayed the same — people riding bikes for a variety of purposes and pleasures. From racing to gravel adventures to commuting to exercise to triathlons, I’m ready for all of it.
I’ve worked in several different shops in the NOVA area and handled everything from regular flats and quick brake adjustments to ebike diagnosis, time trial custom builds, wheel building, and suspension work. In recent years, I’ve worked locally for shops in the Fredericksburg, VA area and had great relationships with many happy riders 🙂 I’m about getting that bike fixed and getting you rolling.
I believe the industry is changing though. We’ve seen almost all major bicycle brands approach every facet they can think of to sell you products. From online direct ordering to fierce competition in even the used bicycle markets, it’s become a whirlwind of statements claiming to be the fastest for less or the never-ending line of accessories you’ll need to have fun. I felt it personally and believe that independent bicycle mechanics (IBMs) fit the modern cyclists’ needs far better than big brand models. Local independent shops are still a cornerstone in my book and are one of the last lines protecting the consumer by being independent.
I don’t have to pay for fancy lights, big signs, and thousands of marketing emails. That means two things. One — if you choose Blue Cog Velo, you’ll be directly supporting the person that is dedicated to solving your cycling issues, needs, or questions rather than some entity. Two – I don’t run retail hours. If you need a brake bleed at 5AM so you get to the race at 8AM, I’m ready. If you busted your wheel on a curb on your way home from work and need to get it trued up or a flat fixed, I’m ready. If your dream bike just arrived in a big box and your shaking because you’re so excited to get it built and go ride, I’m ready.
