David Polk

Master Mechanic

I’ve lost track of the number of different bicycles that have hung in my work stand over the past two decades.  I haven’t lost track of the passion for fixing and building them.  From high volume shops in Northern Virginia to leading the mechanic team for JUMP bikeshare in DC to technical support for Stromer electric bikes, I love providing fast efficient and accurate service.  If you put a bike in front of me, I’m going to start looking for what I can fix or make better.  It doesn’t matter if it’s a commuter rig or a racing machine, I’m into it and whatever goal you’ll use it to pursue.

I’ve worked with most major dealers including Trek, Specialized, Cannondale, Pinarello, Giant, Cervelo, BMC, ENVE, Allied, OPEN, Santa Cruz, Time, Look, and Ibis.  I’ve also worked with custom brands like Seven Cycles, Serotta, Moots, Waterford, and Speedvagen.  I’m experienced in the caveats of how each brand’s bicycles operate and am familiar with finding parts for any of them. I will service just about any brand of bicycle. It doesn’t have to be expensive to be a great bike.  If you ride it enough, it will need maintenance and I’m well versed in all levels of components.

I’m fluent in both mechanical and electronic groupsets for SRAM, Shimano, and Campagnolo.  From overhauling an old 9 speed Campagnolo shifter to setting up Flight Attendant and AXS to fit matching on a time trial rocket, I can get it done right.

I use professional tools and operate within the highest standards.  My goal is providing accurate and reliable bicycle service.  My ultrasonic services only use Extreme Simple Green diluted 1:20 (safe for all finished and unfinished metals as well as composites and carbon fiber).

I’m a member of the Fredericksburg Cyclists Club as well as the Fredericksburg Trail Alliance.  I’ve worked with the local NICA teams (Fredericksburg Composite MTB Team and Battlefield Composite) for several years for shop service.  All three organizations are excellent. I’d be happy to provide mechanical support for events if my schedule allows.  Feel free to email me (david@bluecogvelo.com) if you have any questions about how the services work.
